Doctor. Builder.Scaling health systems across Africa.
I’m a medical doctor (MBChB), MBA and health informatics specialist, with 16+ years across clinical care, national digital health, investment and entrepreneurship.
I trained as a medical doctor and worked in Zambia’s Ministry of Health across internal medicine, paediatrics, surgery, HIV, TB, and maternal and child health.
Trained and certified as an Investment Advisor by the Securities and Exchange Commission, with 3 years of investment banking experience at a US$3 billion transaction firm and expertise spanning debt and equity capital markets.
I helped scale Zambia’s national EHR from pilot sites to 2,054 facilities and 12M records, and co-built a RAG-based tool for plain-language data questions.
The experiences behind my work, told in six chapters.

Chapter 01
Age 15: The Spark
I first fell in love with human biology and science at the age of 15, when I discovered how vaccination worked.
The idea that introducing a harmless or weakened form of a pathogen could train the immune system to protect the body fascinated me.
That's how my love story with science began.

Chapter 02
The Mystery of Life
University Years
At university, I became fascinated by DNA and the mystery of why people are the way they are. I spent time trying to wrap my head around the double helix structure and how something so microscopic could carry the instructions for life. When it finally clicked, my fascination with science grew even deeper.

Chapter 03
The Reality Check
From Excellence to Purpose
I graduated from medical school summa cum laude, with distinction and recognition as a top student in Medicine and Surgery.
But when I began my internship, reality hit hard. We had been trained for the world's best, yet we encountered the worst.
My turning point came when I met a woman diagnosed with both cervical cancer and HIV on the same day.
That encounter changed how I saw healthcare. I realised that treating disease wasn't enough. People needed knowledge to protect their health.
So I started the Pulse Health Newsletter to make health information accessible to everyday people.

Chapter 04
From Information to Innovation
The Birth of TeleDoctor
What began as a simple health newsletter soon evolved into something bigger.
I realised that technology could do more than educate people about their health. It could connect them directly to healthcare professionals.
So I co-founded TeleDoctor, a digital health platform connecting Zambians with medical doctors over the phone, in partnership with Zamtel, one of Zambia's leading telecommunications companies at the time.
This was my first major step from practising medicine to building technology that could make healthcare more accessible.

Chapter 05
A World of Possibilities
The Fellowships That Changed My Perspective
My entrepreneurial journey opened doors I had never imagined.
I was selected as both a Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Fellow and a Mandela Washington Fellow, joining a network of ambitious African entrepreneurs and emerging leaders.
Through the Mandela Washington Fellowship, I spent six weeks at the University of Notre Dame, near South Bend, Indiana, learning about entrepreneurship, business leadership, and scaling ideas.
Being surrounded by innovators, entrepreneurs, and changemakers who were building solutions for the world's biggest challenges completely changed my perspective.
I began to see that the possibilities were far greater than I had ever imagined.

Chapter 06
From One Clinic to a Nation
Scaling Healthcare Through Technology and AI
Then came an opportunity that brought everything together: medicine, technology, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
I helped develop and scale Zambia's national electronic health record system, SmartCare Pro, from its beginnings at a small clinic to a platform reaching 2,054 healthcare facilities and over 12 million patient records.
Working alongside an exceptional team, I also helped pioneer one of the early AI-driven electronic health record initiatives, exploring how artificial intelligence could support clinical decision-making and improve healthcare delivery.
What started at one clinic had become part of a nation's digital health infrastructure.

02 / THE WORK
From one clinic to a national EHR.
SmartCare Pro is the work that brings my clinical, product and health-systems practice together.
Featured story / SmartCare Pro
Zambia's national EHR
I joined IHM Southern Africa in 2022 as a consultant to re-engineer the national EHR. It reached deployment readiness in under two years, which led to a full-time leadership role.
01
Build for the clinical reality
As clinical lead and product owner for the CDC-funded SCHISS programme, I took SmartCare Pro from pilot sites at Bauleni Mini Hospital and Chongwe District Hospital to 2,054 facilities and 12M records. The system covers HIV, TB, maternal and child health, OPD, family planning and surgery.
02
Make adoption part of the product
I drove adoption with the ADKAR change-management framework across major teaching hospitals: UTH, Levy Mwanawasa, Ndola and Kitwe. I also built the reporting pipeline and dashboards that made national reporting faster for health teams.
03
Leave the system more open
I spotted that officials could not query national data without engineers, so I co-built a RAG-based AI tool for plain-language data questions. It later rolled into SmartCare 2.0, an AI-first EHR; I now lead the transition of the programme to Zambia's Ministry of Health and the open-sourcing of SmartCare Pro for adoption by other African countries.
See the standards, data and integration work
I directed data standards using ICD-10, ICD-11, LOINC and SNOMED CT, and led WHO SMART Guidelines / DAK-to-FHIR work. I also directed interoperability with DISA for laboratory data, eLMIS for the supply chain and community health systems.
Using Tableau, Power BI and Superset, I built the reporting pipeline and dashboards that cut disease-surveillance latency from two months to 24 hours.
I am now the transition lead for handing the US$35M programme over to Zambia's Ministry of Health. I am also leading the open-sourcing of SmartCare Pro so other African countries can adopt it.
